Dental Procedures
Overview

Dentistry is one of the youngest and most underdeveloped veterinary disciplines. Dental disease, on the other hand is the most widespread disease of dogs and cats.

Pets suffer from the same conditions that affect human teeth. They get bad breath and if the teeth are not brushed regularly, they accumulate plaque and calculus. Untreated, the condition worsens and leads to periodontal pocket, bone recession, abscess and loss of teeth.

Endodontics (root canal treatment, vital pulpotomy, retrograde or surgical root canal, direct and indirect pulp capping)

Periodontics (root planing, curettage, various gingival flaps)

Orthodontics (interceptive by extracting teeth to improve occlusion or corrective by designing and applying braces to move teeth to their normal position)

Dental radiography (helps in the diagnosis of most dental pathology)

Oral surgery (maxillofacial fracture reconstruction, oronasal fistula repair, oral cancer surgery)

Restorative dentistry (filling cavities and enamel defects with glass ionomers or composite resins, and cementing metal crowns)
